Newport Folk Festival

August 1st and 2nd, with a day of driving on either side, Amanda and I were up in Newport for the 50th anniversary of its folk festival. The weather cooperated for the most part, driving to and from Newport from our campsite an hour away wasn't too painful, and the festival itself was a great success. It was an incredible weekend, and likely will be the only summer break I get.

Here's who we were able to see:

Saturday Aug 1
Billy Bragg
Tao Rodriguez Seeger
The Low Anthem
Gillian Welch
Fleet Foxes
Iron & Wine
The Decemberists

Sunday Aug 2
Josh Ritter
Neko Case
Balfa Toujours
Arlo Guthrie
Deer Tick
Joan Baez
Elvis Perkins in Dearland
Judy Collins
Peter Seeger & friends

Pretty solid. Unfortunately, with three different stages going on, musicians were staggered and we had to use our time wisely. Some people we didn't get to see for quite as long as we would have liked, but that's the price to pay for a quality lineup.

Some select pics:

The Low Anthem, a highlight for me.

The bassist giving it his all.

Look who ducked in a few feet from us to see his grandson play!

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

Mmmm dinner.

Elvis Perkins breaking it down.

A stage full of heroes on the last night undeterred by the incoming fog and drizzle.

Great times.
