Rise of the Vulcans

Finally powered through Rise of the Vulcans in the run up to our event with Richard Armitage. Really interesting stuff and an enjoyable read.

Reading more about the personal backgrounds of the different Vulcans was illuminating, probably especially for someone who only gained political sentience toward the end of most of their careers. It's also interesting reading historical re-tellings of such modern events. I know that all administrations have different factions represented within that must argue, at least internally, about policy decisions, but it is interesting just how divided Bush's State Department and Defense Department teams were, especially considering their shared backgrounds.

Only partway through did I realize that it was written by a guy at CSIS. Represent.
