Interruption: I Flew a Plane

Yesterday I flew a Cessna 172 (1984) out of Washington International Flight Academy in Gaithersburg.

Thanks to WIFA and Groupon, I had thirty minutes of ground instruction, then thirty minutes in the air. And yes, I was in the pilot's seat.

Under instruction, I taxied, took off, and flew around for a little while averaging 2,000 ft. It was a little too hazy to see DC proper, but we could see Bethesda and others.

It's pretty cool during a bank to look out the window and just see ground.

After a while, we descended and I gave over the controls for landing (that is ok with me). We taxied back to its parking spot and backed it up manually like a Volkswagen. I'm basically a pilot now. Highly recommended. It was hard to keep a stupid grin off my face the entire time.
